Life is good in West Los Angeles. I live about 3 1/2 miles from the beautiful beaches of Santa Monica. The movie theatre mecca of Westwood is about 2 miles to the east, along with the UCLA campus and Medical Center. It's a 2 block walk to Wilshire Boulevard (LA's main drag) and 5 blocks to Brentwood village. There's a bunch of restaurants and some good markets; it's clean and safe. The air is really good this near the ocean, not like the infamous smog of LA's valleys. I drive about 10 minutes to work in Century City. Many moons ago, Century City didn't exist; it was the 20th Century Fox movie studios & backlot. After losing lots of money in the '50's (due to a bunch of lackluster movies), Fox sold off about 3/4 of the lot to developers. Too bad... the old lot had lots of cool stuff. This is the view from my porch @ sunset. It's really peaceful.
And this is the view of our porch...... (the backside of the building)
Brentwood has been changing from a cozy neighborhood to a much more densely populated one. My apartment used to overlook 5 modest single family homes, but now it's all upscale townhome complexes. My view of the Santa Monica Mountains has been ruined, a real shame. Unfortunately, I can't afford to move out, unless I hit the lottery. Our building used to be pretty large for our neighborhood. Until very recently, few apartment building around here were taller than 3 stories (partly because of earthquakes...), but now the trend is 4 & 5 story condos, with underground parking and rooftop patios. But at the end of the day, it's a nice place to come home to. I can be comfortable here for many years to come.
